Well I wouldn't give it up without making sure you can survive financially...take it from someone who knows! You may find it very difficult to step back into 10 years down the road.
Mind you, if you can do it, you're bound to be a lot happier too...but that happiness can quickly fade when financial woes set in and you would just be trading one set of stresses for another kind!
See if you can't cut back somehow...can you job share at all?
Discuss it with the boss if you are really serious about leaving because if you can find a compromise it may work out well for you.

I think a lot of this depends on other factors -- are you single, married, kids, supporting relatives, etc?
If you have given this 9-5 thing the best you've got, and it's really not working, why not make the jewelry on the side until it takes off? That will give you a boost, something productive and fun to do after work, and time to see if this is what you want to do full time.
Then if you still want to do it, ask if you are willing to take the outcome, no matter what? Such as being poor, losing professional ties, risking not being able to support yourself, having to take part time jobs to make ends meet, moving, etc. If that is all o.k. with you -- go for it!!!
You have to dream it to do it!!

Make a career of your jewelry design business.
I'm almost in the same position... I need a website to sell my paintings... then I can quit the endlessly tiring job that I have.

Any chance of taking a break Malibu? Maybe you just need some time out. If this is not possible why not do things a bit differently at work (if this can be done of course). One man I worked with was burning out fast until one day he brought his pet duck to work. After that he contextualised his job and got a lot better. (Yes I know ... it altered the pecking order)

Could be that you need to do this now(you sound stressed),and find another job similar ,only if you need all the benefits.if you really are ok and do not need medical,etc...branch out for awhile, but these days it is so risky not to have a good health program......
experience..and you do not want to go thru what i did, luckily I went back to same co and my husband lost his job,and went on disibility...but his healthcare does not pay everything/and mine makes up for differences.Check into prices of healthcare, they are staggering...

You need a long Vacation, That is why companies give you that time off because they understand that you get burned out doing your job.

rupture the spell of the ideology of a commodified consumer society so that your repressed desires of a more authentic nature can come forward
