Moreover, why should I sweep so much more often than they ever did then? Where is the floor they swept now? All we remember are highlights from their time... let alone them, or their efforts to keep a tidy house, place of work, etcetera.

Most people who are dead now have nothing to show for whatever their efforts were. Solomon said "this is vanity and a striving after wind." (Ecclesiastes 1:14) But then, we must occupy our vain lives with something, Each of us decides if sweeping the floor is a worthwhile pursuit to us.

Actually, people 1000 years ago DIDN'T sweep their floors. That's why archaeologists have to dig to learn about their civilizations.
Is that the fate you want for yourself and your children?

Live in the here and now.
Don't worry about what some people did, a few thousand years ago.
Your life, is about you.
Concentrate on the people and the things that matter.

There is no purpose for sweeping other than one's own desire to remove dirt from floors. If you don't want to remove the dirt from floors then, by all means, don't remove it. After all, what you do with your own floors and broom is your own business and not ours.

Just try and leave it for awhile and see the difference, if you can live with it, then be it, otherwise keep on sweeping.

It is all about the future. You can have your floor dirty now, or have it clean.
