Yes it is a bank holiday but bank holidays have changed in that the shops dont close anymore. At one time it used to be sunday trading hours which meant only diy shops opened but now any shop can open. The banks are shut though.

Yes bank holidays are great. I have the week off. No money and 2 kids. We are going to see the Pirates of the Caribbean. My kids don't want to but I am dragging them there.

It does not feel like one. I think the Bank Holidays should occur on the nearest Mondays to the old quarter days: 1st Feb (Imbolc), 1st May (Beltane), 1st August (Lugnasadh), 1st Nov (Samhain). It spreads them out more evenly over the year and they take place at mid season.
