What do you want to do? My biggest regret in life is that I didn't go into college straight out of high school. Just don't do something you will regret later in life.

I hear a lot from students that if they don't do something now, they never will. That just isn't true of most people. I run into so many people who have been out of school for a while and it has increased their desire to focus on academics because they really missed it while they were out. Going to a "wack" school doesn't sound like a great plan. Know, however, that your chances of getting into a good school don't necessarily increase over time. It seems like the competition just keeps getting stronger, and unless you do something extraordinary during that year, taking time off won't help you. If you just randomly applied to poor schools last year, taking a year off may be a good plan. If you applied to good schools and didn't get in, and you are hoping that your chances will be better a year later, taking time off may not be so good.

If you do take time off, don't tie yourself to things which will decrease the likelihood of going back to school. Don't get so attached to your job that you don't feel you can leave. Don't get married or have a child. Don't make any major purchases (car, house) which would require you to keep working full time in order to support them.

You have had a lot of answers the same on here which say go right to college. So I would make a list #1 the do's and #2 the don'ts and see which has the most. Also the biggest thing is making a decision, and sticking with it. You are evidently enjoying and at your prime learning time right now and enthused about it. You have a fear about making the wrong choice, and it is one of the worst fears that there are...You do not know what will happen if you do or you don't however as my mother used to say, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. So make a decision and stick to it regardless of what anyone says.
This is your dream follow it.

Once you finish high school, I would suggest you keep going. If you think about it, the sooner you get it done than the sooner you can get it behind you. You've just finished learning some very important things for college and will be able to use it to your advantage more now than ever. I have seen how hard it is for people to go back to school after taking time off. It can be really hard to motivate yourself later. The choice of your college is not really that important. Getting the diploma is what ultimately counts for a good job. And college will be much more interesting for you. You really get the chance to find out what you love, or discover things you've never learned about before.

I'm maybe in a semi-similar position. I went to college right after high school. Ended up that I went into the wrong program. I was there for the semester and decided it wasn't the right one for me. I'm thinking of maybe/probably going back in the fall or at a later date. Right now I'm trying out the work world for the first time (never did the part-time thing with school). At the moment playing things by ear, but I'm liking my job and it also gives me valuable work experience.

Sometimes the choice to continue or go back to school can vary by the person. For some, they want to go further, get the bigger paycheck, get more recognition and all that. For others, it doesn't matter so much. For me, I just want to be happy and content with wherever I end up. I'm still debating whether to go back and also I would need to choose a more suitable program for me. I also know that I have the funding if I do go back to school so that isn't much of an issue. But I believe that whatever you do, you end up feeling good about where you end up later in life in terms of career, family and all that. Sometimes it helps to take a little time off to figure out for sure where you want to end up - do you want to just get the degree or do you want to get the good school name on that degree? Sometimes it works out just as well even if you weren't to go to post-secondary at all. It can work very well for some to just go into the work force and take it from there. Sometimes they find that they like it better that way and don't feel they need to return to school, it all depends on the person.

I can't give you any definate answers because only you can choose that, no one else can do that for you - as much as they may like to try sometimes, lol. I'm trying out the work world for a bit before returning to school because I know I have the time at this point (since most things start in the fall).

Good luck!

If you think you should improve you skills before you head into collage if you don't think your prepared enough. If you go straight into collage with out the skills you think your missing just because someone told you your going to get lazy your going to regret it. After you get those better writing skills i think you'll feel more confident. Another thing your friend, if she really is your friend she would understand you want to hold off before going to collage. If you think the collage is wack you shouldn't even think twice about going there. look for a school you like and want to go to and work towards that and nothing less.

Just remember everyone is just trying to tell you what they think is best for you but no one knows better then you. don't be so unsure of your self trust your instinct and go with what you think is right. that's all that matters although everyone's looking out for you on one can look out for you better then you because only you know what you really want and what really is best for you.

yes, take six months and back pack europe. see the world, learn new cultures. you will start college with a less provincial view of the world. it will also help you with geography, with history and with world events. while there, you will also gain insight into how the rest of the world thinks, from first hand experience. this will help with your poly-sci classes too.

and...best of all...you will have one kick A** time!

Stay in youth hostels, you will meet some very relaxed, cool people who are your age and up.

have fun! there is always time for college next year and when you go, you will be a much richer person in your experiences. take a friend with you, if you are a girl and call your parents and loved ones, each week, to let them know where you are. get a eurorail pass and take the trains. budget about 75 bucks per day. you can also teach english in the former soviet countries. they would love to have a native english speaker tell them the slang, since they are booked learned and have horrible accents. :D

Well, it should be your individual choice, but I think you should keep on going. It's better because all of your learning and applying techniques are at their best. And you usually take more time off than intended. But go with what's more comfortable for you.
