My newborn is only a month old and my other two boys started right under a year old. I ask because I was told his cousin started walking at 7months, which I thought was EXTREMELY early but since I only had my kids to base that theory off of, I figured I get a wider perspective.

I walked at 9 months, my daughter at 8, my son at 10 and my little brother at 16 months. It is a very individual thing just like talking. Your child will walk when ready and there really isn't much that you can do to speed it along although if you use a walker that actually slows down there ability to walk. My doctor explained that a walker doesn't allow the thigh muscles to develop strong enough for walking so I never used one. I did use an exerciser which my doctor approved of.

Good luck!

I've seen itty bitty toddlers at 8 months, but most walk at about a year. Mine was a little over a year--maybe about 13-14 months.

A year, which is pretty average. A friend had hers start at 8 months, which would be so strange, seeing a baby so little walking!

My boy was pulling himself up on things at 10 months and officially walked at 11 months.
That is considered early though.

My daughter started walking right after she turned 9 mos.
I think it's more common to begin walking closer to 12 mos though.

I guess there is the question on what people believe is "walking". Is walking taking a step unaided. Is it taking a couple of steps or is it walking without falling down.

My daughters started walking at 9-10months, however they didnt start walking well (without falling down) at10 - 11months.
