The first answer is correct. As long as the animals stay in contact with only one wire at a time, they are ok. If they ever contact two wires or one wire and ground, they will be electrocuted. For electrical current to flow, there must be a voltage difference. Since the animal is only in contact with one wire, there is no voltage difference.

The voltage difference between the two feet or legs of the bird is so less that the current flowing through the body of the bird is negligible and so it is not affected. But if the bird somehow connects the ground while sitting on the live wire, it will be fried.

The birds and squirrels don't get buzzed coz the r not in any contact with the ground.they are only holding the wires.if they were touching both ground and wire at the same time, they would become an electric circuit between the former n latter.electricity would flow(as it does though any circuit)and they would Be buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

(Formal warning:it is the same for humans also)

They don't get shocked because they are not grounded. They are only standing on the live wire.
