The retaining strap bolts broke on me while driving in town. Replace the u joint and the straps but still have a strange vibration at about 2000rpm. There seems to be a little too much slop with the u joint as it sits in the yoke but I don't know if that would cause it. Please help!!!!!

if they didnt scribe the shaft position before they did the work, they may have "clocked" it wrong, resulting in the shaft being out of balance. it may need to be re-balanced, and the "slop" that you describe in the yolk may be the cause as well. get a different tech to look at it if the shop that did the work is not willing to help.

Front U joint may be going bad, and by replacing and thus strengthening the rear, you amplifiy the problem. Also, the driveshaft may not be clocked correctly; because of the slip yoke in Wranglers, it is possible to put the driveshaft on "in phase" that is, the front and rear yoke ears are in the same position, and this will cause vibration. They need to be 90 degrees "out of phase with each other.

You should not feel any vibration normally, I have 2 of them (94, 95) both with lift kits, and mud terrain tires, and they don't vibrate, unless you count the vibration the lugs of the tires make below 5 MPH.

the loose yoke could cause a vibration, replace the yoke before it breaks the bolts again. if the drive shaft came out of the rear yoke and hit the street it may be bent. remove shaft lay it on aflat surface (shop floor) and slowly roll it acrossed the floor if it is bent you will see it

Sometimes when repairing u-joints on drive shafts, I have seen people knock of counter weights causing alot of vibration after they thought they had repaired the car.
