let me first say I'm sooo sorry for the loss of Sugar. It's weird, exactly 1 month (to the day) before Sugar died, i lost my little boy Nikki. Cancer also. He went in for adrenal surgery and didn't make it through the night after surgery. They said he had Lymphosarcoma (cancer of the lymph nodes, which spreads rapidly). Someone needs to do some research for these poor little fuzzballs, they need to find better treatments and ways to detect cancer sooner in ferrets. My little girl had cancer in her adrenal gland, she had it removed and thankfully she's still fine today, 3 years after surgery. Again i'm so sorry for your loss, you should gather up some pics. of Sugar and keep them close by, this helped me. email me if you need to talk.

Because of the Marshall's 'ferret mills.'

You've all heard of puppy mills, right? They breed and breed their dogs with NO regard to the care or well-being of animals and NO concern whatsoever with breeding healthy, well adjusted pets. The Marshal family has done the same thing with ferrets. They bred so many ferrets, inbred them, didn't care about illness or anything, and their 'poor' ferrets have flooded the market. They were accidentally mixed in with healthier ferret lines until now almost ALL ferrets are compromised. Unless some GOOD breeders take a stand and really, really try to breed good, healthy lines, pet ferrets might be doomed.

So that's why your beloved ferret died. People with NO morals, ethics or humanity who worship MONEY are to blame.

I'm SO sorry about your pet.

Mostly because of poor breeding practices. Huge ferret farms that practice irresponsible breeding as well as early spay and neutering promote ill-health in general. Ferrets are also fickle creatures. If they are not given the best food, care, and vet's they just don't live as long.

Because many breeders do not use nor have a diverse gene pool so many are inbreed.
