The only problem with this is that if the area isn't a perfect circle you're going to have areas of over spray. Professionals (like me) install from the outside pointed in. What you're proposing is watering from the inside out. The reason we water from the outside in is over spray. And, that's why you don't see what you are proposing done elsewhere. At least, not done as the ONLY sprinkler location.

If it was a large area, you could put a line through the middle (or multiple lines), but still have a surrounding line of sprinklers that waters the 10 feet or so closest to the edges, from the outside IN.

Like Brett said, install heads on the edges shooting in. On a yard 20X20, you should install 4 rotating heads, 1 in each corner. Turn the heads down so they don't over shoot the property. You will get very good coverage. If you put 1 head in the middle, either you are going to water the street ,the house and the neighbors yards, or you will have a big green circle of grass with brown, unwatered grass around it.

That is what pop up sprinklers are designed for. When they are off they are flush with the ground and usually hidden by the height of the grass. When the water is on they pop up to spray and then fall down when it is shut off.

If it is a pop up no one will see it? DUH!!! No one really cares just as long as you take care of your lawn and you are not the a**hole on the block who does not take care of his/her property.
