Swimming is the best exercise for swimming. It sounds cliche but it's the truth. There are no other exercises that mock the actual muscles groups and resistance used while swimming. If you absolutely cannot go swimming, run and do cardio to maintain your cardiovascular system and muslce tone. Avoid bulking up, high reps with light weights if you MUST do weight training. If you really love swimming, you shoudl go to the community pool even if you don't like it. Swimming is the best workout for swimming, it's that simple.

Good luck!

You're not going to like my answer...

Do push-ups
Do crunches with your legs making a ninety degree angle. (Thighs straight up, calves horizontal)
Run
Ride a bike
Use a jump rope
DON'T slack off on your workout, push yourself.

If you're swimming for a team, or competitively in any way, you need to build up your strength.

You can look up other floor excercises for some variety... and I suggest 15-20 reps a piece for each, but don't rest in between for longer than a few seconds...

Good luck for whatever reason you want to swim! It's a great sport
