I want to "talk" to someone on the diametrically opposed location to my location. I.e., someone on the other "side" of the planet. But I must first learn where that other location is. I know where I am at, I just need to know where "they" are.

Latitude (ladder style) is across the equator so 10 degrees north is opposite 10 degrees south. Easy.
Longitude is a bit harder because the 0 line is arbitrary and people, especially in the U.S., do not have much experience with E and W. Further, the opposite side of the earth requires moving 180 degrees so you need to think of subtracting like you do degrees across the zero point of temperature.
In this case, take the Longitude 92.5W. If we subtract 180 we get -87.5W or 87.5E. Similarly, if we take 6.3E and subtract 180 we get 173.7W which is probably in the water as it is near the international date line in the Pacific.

Their latitude: Change the direction on yours from north to south, or vice versa.

Their longitude: Subtract the number of degrees in your longitude from 180, then change the direction from east to west, or vice versa.

Example: Start at Butte, Montana ... 46°N, 112.5°W.

Latitude of the "opposite" is 46°S.(change north to south)

Longitude of the opposite is 67.5°E (180 - 112.5 = 67.5, then change west to east)

Answer: 46°S, 67.5°E. There's nothing living there but fish, though ... that location is in the southern Indian Ocean.

Very simple. Remember the Latatuide rhymes with FLATitud which is east to west. and long. means long running north to south.
