Well, it helps if you state it correctly.
X - 0.10X =5000
0.9X = 5000
X = 5000/0.9
You can do the last step I hope.

x-10x/100=5000
x-x/10=5000
9x/10=5000
9x=5000*10
9x=50000
x=50000/9
x=5555.556(up to 3 decimal places)#

I think you mean x-10% x=5000 10% means 10/100 or 0.1 so
x-10% x=5000
x-0.1x=5000
0.9x=5000
x=5000/0.9=5555.55....

I would cross multiply...put 10 over 100 and the discounted over the original (x)...multiply x times 10 and the discounted times 100...then, divide by 10.
