Took my bike for a ride the other day, parked it @ home, ran fine, absolutely no problems. Next morning, big stream of oil under the bike (pretty sure all of it). Any ideas what it could be? It's an 81 Kawasaki KZ750, so pretty old. Just wonderin what the hells goin on.

Did u clean up the oil on the floor and on the bike and then check to see if you could see where the oil was coming from?

hard to tell what might be wrong without more info.

Your first step is to find out exactly where the oil is leaking from.

Usual suspects are drain plug, oil filter (but that bike I don't think has an external oil filter), seals, and engine gaskets.

If necessary, replace some of the lost oil and note where it begins to leak.

A service manual might be of assistance because you could get an idea of likely faults based on where the oil was leaking from. Service manuals can be had fairly cheaply at places like http:/www.alibris.com or http://www.biblio.com or even the ebay site.

Could be -
Loose oil filter cover, bolt or o-rings.
Loose oil drain bolt or leaking sealing washer.
Cracked oil pan, crankcase or engine covers.
Loose oil pan or engine cover bolts.
Leaking gaskets allowing oil to leak out of a bolt hole.
Clean the entire engine with "gunk engine degreaser".
Sprinkle white baby powder around any area that might leak oil (bolts, cover gaskets).
Fill with oil and run the bike.
The baby powder will dis-color where the leak is.
Tighten the bolts and repeat.

Well all bikes have an oil reservoir and an oil pump. Find either one of those and follow the lines. You probably broke an oil line given your description of the leak. Just don't start it without oil... :P

clutch pushrod seal or output shaft seal most common on older bikes. Anything else should be pretty obvious

i'd bet money that it's a gasket. they cost almost nothing and if you have simple mechanic skills, like if you know how to change a tire...or anything of that nature, you could probably do it in less than an hour.

Did you put the cap back on? Put some duct tape on it.
