To buy a horse it would be anywhere from 800-4000 (good price range) However you will occasionally find those 10,000 ones and ive even seen a 80,000 one.. but 800-4000 is reasonable...

Ferrier Bill:
Shoes: replaced every 4-6 weeks
ranges from 20-50$

No Shoes: 4-6 week trim/checkup
about 20-30$

Vet Bill:
If you schedual a checkup it should be about 40$ if the vet has to make a house call

Spring Vaccinations should be about 120$
Coggins tests are usually around 75$
Flu shot is about 20$

Feed:
Grain: should be 100$/month
Hay: should be about 100$/month as well

Brushes:
soft brush, hard brush, hoof pick, curry comb, face brush should total to about 30$.

Blankets:
Good winter blanket= about 200$
Rain sheet= about 80$
water proofing spray= 15$

you do the math =) its expensive.

It all depends. For the horse, you can either buy a cheap horse and train it, or buy a nice horse for more that doesnt need training. I dont know how much it is in Canada, but here (in the U.S.) it can range from $150 to $945 (my barn). For the tack there is a huge variety. The saddle can range from used ones at like $100- really nice saddles. I have a tad coffin saddle because I compete in hunters on the A-circuit. It was a $4200 saddle but they come lower too! Brushes arent usually a problem, but if you buy a lot, it can add up. A brush can range from .50- $30. A bridle can range from $20- $2000. So good luck! Dont forget farrier and vet costs!

It can cost anywhere from a few thousand dollars and up for a horse of any kind. Saddles are easily $300, bridles brushes and all the extras can be another $1000 depending on what kinds you get and if where you keep the horse does the grooming for you then you wouldn't need to buy some things.

As to vet costs and boarding, my aunt pays (in a cheap month) $2000 per horse, when they have something wrong, are in heat, or need shots it can easily cost $5000.

Food is another thing remember, but is usually included in the cost of boarding.

The cost of the horse is the LEAST of your worries. Plan to have several hundred dollars a month for board/feed/vet bills, training, etc etc. Saddles can cost hundreds or thousands.

You don't necessarily need to 'buy' a horse, you can adopt it. There are many benefits to adopting a horse because first, you can change it's past life experience and second, it's a lot cheaper. (Or free)

Buying a horse is not cheap -- but the maintenance is a real killer. There are no "one time" expenses. They are ongoing. Horses are a very expensive hobby. I hope you have money to burn!

horse prices range....however the real money hits you when they start to get sick and you need to vet out and not to mention all their shots and feed....it all adds up. i made the mistake of not realizing how much goes into having a horse!!!!
