Probably for fear the card may be stolen. Cash and carry is an easier and cheaper operation for the Movies unless you wouldn't mind the rates to go up to cover the processing fee.

The merchant usually pays a fee for each credit/debit card processed. The question is why do you want to pay interest on top of the price of your tickets and snacks?
Use cash. It will not hurt you to do things with real money instead of plastic.

They also have an ATM in the lobbies.
