"I've noticed that I lost the ability to pronounce words like "asked" and other words (that I can't think off the top of my head). I kind of developed a stutter and I sometimes can't find the right word to say anymore or I can't find synonyms of a word in normal conversation. Is it possible to develop these speech problems? I mean I'm kind of insecure about what I say because I feel like I sound stupid saying it, but it gets kind of annoying because I look stupid trying to think of the right thing to say or I think about it, but it comes out in a stutter. How do I fix this? I want to be secure with myself and speak properly. Do tongue twisters help diction? What about my stutter and insecurity? Do I have to brush up on vocabulary?" - I am having the exact same problems as the yahoo user i quoted. Any suggestions?

A stutter is a result of the brain visualizing the word but the mouth not being able formulate it. When some people are nervous, IE trying to make a good impression, or worried. or tried they are more likely to stutter. from your description part of your problem is your low self-esteem. So i think you should talk to a professional or at least a school guidance councilor to help you. as most things we can not fix on our own. PS a famous person I can not remember who talks with an accent to bypass the section of his brain which encourages him to stutter.

get some of those kids books with the tongue twisters in them as they will help you. I did that and those books helped me alot as I had the same problem.

Have your doctor give you a referral for a speech therapist, who will test you to evaluate the problem. Thats really your best bet.
