A lot of those big ants (carpenter ants) are thirsty not hungry. They are looking for a leak or a drippy faucet or a damp countertop.

For control go with those ant baits. They usually can wipe out the nest when the foraging ones bring that stuff back home to the queen as a treat for her.

Ants are smart. Instead of walking around a building, they go right through it. My mom always kept a spray bottle of amonia around and sprayed the areas where ants appeared to be coming from. Also, try to make sure that you keep any kind of food particles off your kitchen counters. That will attract them too.

Buy some of those commerical ant traps or ant spray. It really helped us out. Or you could get a cat ( but dont abandon it after, keep it for companionship!)

There is this ant killer call Terro. You put out a little and the ants take it back to the colony and it kills them all. You can usually find it at your local hardware stores. Works great!!

I hear that if an ant eats oatmeal it makes them explode. This might be a good way to destroy an entire colony.

I use Windex to wipe out my counter. It works very well for me. Also, I don't leave any food out.
