Yes, they will give more guarantee money to the draft picks. So they will give more money away. However if they draft a exciting player like what Jamarcus Russell with the Oakland Raiders more people will go to the games to see him. Also more people will also buy his jersey. This gives the team more money. The teams will not receive sponsors because of a early draft pick but that player will.

Usually, teams with the 1st overall pick have a bad team and their salary cap room is high. This allows the team and franchise to properly research for the best player in the draft and the best position needed on the team. Sponsors probably do givethem money, like reebok from selling the hats and authetic jerseys from the team but they make the money through season ticket sales, conseccions, etc. For the player themself, being drafted first is good for the money but a little bad if they are not a starter right away or if the team fails to have a record over .500 (8-8).

No the teams just have to sign and cut players to be under the salary cap. Ya there is more guaranteed money as a higher draft pick so the team will lose more but they wanted to draft them and now hopefully they get a quality player to help them win.

Yes, it costs more money for teams to draft higher picked guys. That's exactly why teams load up on 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks. They hope to get lucky and find a "sleeper" that turns out to be amazing. When first signing them, it is a relatively low cost, but later it will rise.
Sponsors don't give them money. When the team signs a player, merchandise purchases rise. For example, draft picks' jerseys are sold extremely fast. Ticket sales rise. When people attend a game, they have to eat, so food sales rise. Parking is also charged, etc. The team basically gets more money through their own sales.

TV contracts are worth billions. Each team sets aside about 100 million for player salaries. As new players are drafted older players are let go to make room for them on the roster. This frees up the cash to pay the new players.

Its takes away from the draft, there should be a minimum rookies are able to make. I am a firm beliver that Reggie Bush did not go first because of the money he would want and sure enough he threatens to sit out an entire year.

just look at Brady Quinn this year instead of making the money by getting drafted early i dont think he cared that much because he would prolly get money with shoe deals and sponsors and what not.
another benefit of being drafted early is the idea of changing around a franchise. look at what Bush and Young did this year. well mostly Young because Bush had help.
