There are several primary areas that could be causing your computer to run slow. The most likely reason is that Corruption within your registry keys, registry classes, and registry settings, you have too many programs running behind the scenes and your system is essentially running in circles with its internal processing.
To determine if your system is in fact running slow because of problems in your registry and temp files and then speed up your computer, you will need to run a self diagnostic program called regsitry cleaner. This program is very very useful,it can fix regsitry errors, clean registry remnant, corrupt files and temp files in a few minutes. Then give you a bran-new and high-speed computer. There are collection and comparison of top rated registry cleaner:
http://www.fix-slow-computer.info ,From there you can download and scan totall free.
The second most common problem is that you have spyware/adware in your computer.Spyware/adware not only pop up ads, collect personal info, but also can hamper your computer's performance. It use system resources and slow your computer down. Detecting and removing the programs will improve system performance.
Hope that can help you.

There's more than one thing that can cause this but I've found that most people have a problem with insufficient memory. Many programs that you install will put a shortcut in your startup folder so they'll automatically start when your computer starts. They take up memory and the more programs open, the less memory and the slower your computer will operate.
Look at your task bar. How many different icons do you see to the immediate left of the time? You probably have programs open that you're not even aware of or need.
If this is the problem, I do not recommend you attempt to fix it yourself unless you know of specific programs that you don't need and can uninstall. Even then, there will probably be programs running that you don't know about.
The fix for this is to go into the startup menu and unchecking the boxes for programs you don't need but unless you know exactly what you're doing, you take a chance of really screwing things up. Better to be slow than not work at all.
Another thing that causes computers to slow down is fragmentation of your hard drive. This is a simple fix and Windows will even tell you whether you need to fix it or not. Click on your Start button, then All Programs, then Accessories, then the System Tools folder. You should see Disk Defragmentor. Click on this and a new window will pop up. Highlight your C: drive by clicking on it, then click on the Analyze button. A new window should pop up in a couple seconds telling you that analysis is complete and whether you should defragment your hard drive or not. If so, click the defragment button, if not, just close the window.
In over 90% of the cases of computer slow down I've seen, these were the two main problems. If fragmention is not the problem you should get a friend or aquaintence with real computer knowledge to help you with the first problem I mentioned. Taking it to a professional is a last resort in my opinion since they don't know what programs you use every day or want to start when you start your computer. You're better off doing it with a friend so you can be there telling him what programs you use and he can advise you on whether you really need them in startup or whether it would be better to just open them as needed.
Should you choose to attempt to do this yourself, click on your Start button, then click on Run. A small box will open. Type in "msconfig" (without the quotes) then click OK. A new box will open with several tabs across the top. Click on the Startup tab. You should see the checkboxes I mentioned earlier. ( I assume NO responsibility for anything that happens from this point on.)
Only uncheck boxes for programs that you know you don't need at startup i.e. Yahoo messenger, Weatherbug, MyspaceIM etc. You can always open these as needed and they'll free up some memory. When you're done, click OK and restart your computer. You should see a new dialog box when your computer starts that says something about Selective Startup (I'm doing this part from memory and I haven't had to do it for a long time so bear with me). Click on "Don't show this again" or something similar then click OK. Hopefully your computer will start normally and it should be noticeably faster.
One last thing. Have you checked for viruses or spyware, adware etc? If not, do so immediately. I didn't mention this first since most computers come prepackaged with software for this and I assume that you have already checked for these problems.
I hope this answers your question and solves the problem.
Good luck.

Computers are tricky, while some require simple actions to work, other require extremely complicated stuff...
I usually fix these problems with simple methods, do the following:
-Run a virus scan with an updated antivirus program
-Inside the start menu, programs, accesories, system tools, open "disk cleanup" if it's the first time you use it, it may take a while to work. Run the program checking every option the program lets you clean (temporary internet files, temporary files, downloaded programs, recycle bin, offline wepages... compress old files is optional)
-Defragment your disk, is also under system files
-Restart
-If it's still slow, you may have SPAM, Viruses or you just need a cleaning program to help you with the task
try buying some cleaning software, the ones from webroot are very good, I've used them and my computer is always working greatly!
they sell: antispyware, antispyware with antivirus and window washer

a working laptop or laptop runs speedy due a mixture of aspects. It needs to be shielded from viruses and different malware. it won't have too many courses loading at startup, have sufficient RAM. besides this, its is very significant to maintain the HDD sparkling and speedy. you may desire to run diskcleanup and at time-honored periods examine if its fragmented utilising the diagnosis decision. A fantastically fragmentedchronic spreads the slowdown affliction, initially its slow and then even courses open sluggish.

Could be due to a virus. Go into safe mode and scan for virus.
Next time you surf the net, be sure you have a good anti-virus, anti spyware and a registry guard like WinPatrol. Lots of good freeware here:

you probabaly have only a little bit of memory on it or you have a virus. so what you can do is either get a quality virus killing program from the store or get another memeory stick for your computer , you can find that at a electronic store.
