There are no solutions. When you solve a system by graphing, you graph the equations individually and then find all of the places where the two graphed lines/curves intersect. Those equations define two parallel lines, which never intersect.

Or think about it this way: If you pick a value of x and y such that 3x-y = 1, that same calculation on x and y (3x-y) cannot equal both one and two, at the same time.

Substitution ability you're taking between the variables in a single equation and replace it in the different. Or, y = 3x + 2 in a single equation, so which you would be able to easily plug the 3x + 2 into the different equation to remedy for x: 2x + y = 5 is going to 2x + (3x + 2) = 5 2x + 3x + 2 = 5x + 2 = 5 remedy for x: 5x = 5 - 2 = 3 x = 3/5 then you could positioned the linked fee you got here across for x into the two equation to discover y: y = 3x + 2 is going to y = 3 (3/5) + 2. y = 9/5 + 2 y = 9/5 + 10/5 y = 19/5 so... x = 3/5 and y = 19/5

You draw both of the lines so that you can see their intersection points. 3x-y=1 in slope-intercept form is y=3x-1 and 3x-y=2 is y=3x-2. Just graph these. You will notice that the slopes are exactly the same, so the lines are parallel and do not intersect. This means there is no solution.

Line 1
y = 3x - 1
(0,-1) and (2,5) are two points on line and line can be drawn using these points.
Line 2
y = 3x - 2
(0,- 2) and (2,4) are two points on line and line may be drawn using these points.

The lines are parallel having the same gradient, 3

The lines do not intersect so there is no solution.

And you expect me to graph a line in this little text box? I don't think so!

If you graph the two lines you'll find that they're parallel, which means they don't meet and hence there is no solution.

3x - y equals different values in the equations, so they will have no common solution.
