I have the part labeled "slave" on the IDE thats going to my master goin in the hard drive and when I start my computer, it tells my "invalid disk, retry" and what not. When I go into setup during the boot I can't seem to get the computer to recognixe the drive? Does have something to do with a jumper? I need help. My computers running out of space.

What do you mean 'part labeled "slave" on the IDE thats going to my master goin in the hard drive' ? Is it a Cable Select cable and a master/slave HDD setup? Put the drive on the other connector, maybe..

Do you have USB ports.... If you do get an external drive insted... less bother.
Yes it is a jumper issue... if you have the user manuals for both drives then you will see on the back of the drives near where you plug in the cables a series of 4 or 5 connectors... across two of them there will be a small plastic piece forming the jumper. This may need to be moved... DO NOT MOVE THIS AND TRY TO DO IT BY TRIAL AND ERROR.. If you dont know the correct possition you will blow the drive and even your motherboard. If you have the manuals follow what they say. Failing that... take it to a local comp repairshop and ask for help.
Its easier to do that may cost a few dollars but better than a few hundred for a new computer.

Make sure that you have one drive set to 'Master' and the second drive on the same cable set to 'Slave'.

'Cable select' + 'Slave' probably will not work.

You could always set the old drive as the master and the new drive as the slave. It should not really matter which way around they are, but it may help to have the less capable drive set to master.

If the new drive has better capabilities, you should have 2 IDE channels. Set the hard drives as a master on each, and any optical devices as slaves.

You need to set a small jumper on the back of the drive to make it a slave drive if your original drive is a master.

Set the jumper as master and connect the drive to the top part of the cable. and check the BIOS to see if the computer recognize it as master then save and exit.
