at my babies 4 month appt my doctor said to start on solids 3x a day. when a baby doubles there birthweight it is healthy for them to have solids so idk what people are talking about. its by choice if u dont want ur baby on solids til 6 months. but my little one was definitely ready by 4 months! she eats 4 oz in between each feeding ...she usually eats cereal at 8..2..and then at around 7 or 8 at night. it all depends on how much solids u give them....they decide when they are hungry. maybe call ur doc and see what they recommend. try less cereal or try less times a day. its normal to not want to drink alot but if you feel concerned we arent the ones to ask! good luck!

I'm going to guess that rather than 14.12 oz you actually mean pounds. I don't think that's low weight for a 5 month old. We just took our daughter for her 6 month check and she's right at the 50% mark at 15.5 lbs. If he's less than a pound at 5 months old he would be in the hospital.

As far as formula goes, 24-32 oz per day is recommended throughout the first year. That's where the majority of his calories and nutrition should come from so if he's trying to cut back on that you should cut back on the solids. Solids at this point are only practice, and are not meant to be filling. He should probably only have about 2 oz of solids at a time, two times per day.

Okay my son just turned 5 months today and he only eats 1 solid meal a day and that is some cereal. Maybe you started your baby out with solids too soon. He should have approx. 4 oz's of formula or best milk per feeding. Feedings should be about every 4 hours. I think you should cut back on the solid foods and concentrate on the fluids. Your baby might be dehydrated so you should start this right away.
Good Luck and Bless U!

Ok I understand that echnically your not suposed to feed a baby solids till they are like 6 months. However, I started my son on the rice cereal when he was like 3 months, and by the time he was 5 months, he did eat 3 meals a day of solid foods. But he also had 3-4 7oz. bottles a day. My son is 7 almost 8 months old. He still drinks 3-4 bottles a day and he eats baby food too. He mostly doest like bottles. Ill try to feed him bottles because people told me I shouldnt feed him food. BUt he doesnt want bottles, he wants his food. I think you should feed him as long as hes hungry. I am a firm believer that if a child is hungry he will eat, and when hes full, he will stop. I did that with my son and he is still perfect weight. Ive told my doctor about what I feed him, and she told me as long as hes in his height/weight range keep doing waht your doing. Dont worry, and follow what you think is right

You're overdoing the solids. A 5 mos old should just barely be getting started with solids.....not on 3 meals per day! Breastmilk and/or formula should continue to make up most of his diet for the entire first year. Solids are mostly for fun and practice at this age. Cut back on the solids and offer more breastmilk or formula as that's what contains the fats he needs for brain growth at this early age.

He still needs 32 oz of fluid a day. At his age, it's better to give him a bottle first and then solids, since he should be getting most his nutrients from bottle feedings. Check out the book named Super Baby Foods by Ruth Yaron. I think every mom should have a copy.
