(x + 8) (x - 7)

because -7 + 8 = 1 amd -7 * 8 = -56

The answer to a problem like this is always going to be in this form:

(x + a)*(x + b)

which is x^2 + ax + bx + ab

So to figure out what a and b are, you need values of a and b whose product is -56 and whose sum is +1 (the coefficient of the middle term x).

I don't know of any easy to do this except by trial and error.

Fortunately, there aren't too many factors of 56, and the obvious ones are 8 and 7. Since the sum needs to be +1, use +8 and -7.

(x + 8).(x - 7)
Check
x.(x + 7) + 8.(x - 7)
= x² + 7x + 8x - 56
= x² + 15x - 56 (as required)
