Dialup is SLLOOWWW, thats why you are getting the slow speed.
Dial up maxes at a theroetical 56kb/s, actually 48kb/s.
DSL averages about 1.5Mb/s.
Its like the difference between $56,000 and $1,500,000.

dialup is incapable of running at more then a 56/k base rate. you might find wireless or cable a really good solution. dialup is a dieing product that really should have been wiped out a long time ago, i mean really the first internet computers had like 8/k or 14/k i forget. 56/k is like a slug surrounded by 100/k something partners. try seeing if verizons in your area thats what i use for my wireless.

If you are on dialup, the bottleneck (i.e., the part of the system that limits the speed of everything else) is the modem connecting itself. Nothing you do to your computer will make a significant improvement in your online communications speed. Of course, increasing RAM, etc. will increase the speed of your computer off-line, but it won't make much difference for download/upload speeds.

why did you go from dsl to dial up? dial up sucks, it is soo slow, you should have stayed with the dsl, it is the high speed and is generally cheaper than dial up, im with aol and my dsl is much cheaper than dial up

Get rid of AOL. Its bloatware and isn't worth the money. You will get better speeds with a local isp or someone who doesn't require you to run there software to login.

well you do not need any memory, dial up is way slower than dsl, so to speed things up, consider getting dsl back.
