Went a farewell on the weekend for a guy who is going home to the UK, we have been mates for about 8 months:
On saturday night though he was rude and arrogant towards myself and another friend who drove for 3 hours to come to the farewell. Examples are:
1. He bought a round of drinks for everyone there - except for us, he pointed toward the bar and told us to get our own.
2. He was rude to us in front of the whole group and he spoke to me like I was a dog (ie:when his other friend wanted the salt, instead of asking me nicely to pass it to her all he said was 'Rachel, salt now!).
3. He argued over everything I said, about stupid things like how cold it gets in winter (he has never, ever spent a winter here!)
So he leaves tonight and I was supposed to meet him for lunch but I have lied and said I can't. I feel a little guilty but he really annoyed me on saturday night by treating me like sh!t for no reason. Should I feel guilty or not?

some times you have to do life spring cleaning and send some of your friends to the goodwill recycle box.

You should not feel guilty at all. He should be an adult and raelize that a friendship is a mutual relationship. If he doesn't respect you like an adult, then ignoring him is the right thing to do, especially after demanding that you get the salt. Sounds like he wants to be the center of attention and he's better off going home.

I agree it does seem like you have a good heart.. But I think you should tell him how you feel... say the reason you didn’t want to meet with him is because he made you feel really low and treated you the way a real friend wouldnt.. You don’t need mates like that.. Say goodluck in the UK and then dont talk to him anymore.. He dosnt deserve you in his life if he is guna be such an ****!! He should be the one feeling guilty for the way he treated you....

I would have to say that no I would not feel guilty there's got to be a reason he is acting that way towards you,but you deserve to know what the reason is and If you talk to him again and he asks you why you didn't meet with him I would just tell him that you dont understand why he was acting that way towards you after all he wasn't being very considerate of you or your friends

Guilty about a man who is as rude as he was. No way. You should be glad that he is going back to the UK. I'll bet you anything that he does not treat the girls like he did you. Most would put him in his place.

He is a moron and he should feel guilty not you. In fact if I were you I would get him all worked up and tell him to get you two a room and then never show up. I hope he gets a wicked case of the Hershey squirts all the way back to the UK.

No, he treated you like a dog, when you were trying to be nice, and give him a good farewell. You did the right thing, and I hope he realizes that he screwed up!

I'm not good at face-to-face confrontations, so I'd probably have gone your route. But I think it would have been justified to call him on his actions. No one has the right to treat other humans (much less mates of 8 months) that rude!

Don't feel guilty. He doesn't sound like much of a friend and I dont' understand why you didn't just walk out on this party. He doesn't deserve you as a friend. Find people that will appreciate you.
