Is a telephone line still needed to connect to the internet if you have cable hookup?

No, you only need a telephone connection if you plan on using a lan line for a phone, otherwise no. The internet connects through a central hub that links the master computer to the cable jack, and the phone line is then obsolete.

No. If you have cable hookup, then you will have a cable modem that the cable is plugged into. From the cable modem, you run a cable (CAT 5 cable, the kind with a connector that looks like a telephone connector at each end) from the cable modem to the PC network adapter card.
You computer gets onto the network from this cable.
A telephone line is not involved.

Nope, it never was needed. In the past most cable companies required you to have a land line connected to your cable box for billing and system upgrades, but no longer. You are required to have a phone number, even a cell number, assotiated with the account so they can contact you though.....
