well like these other kind people are telling you you should have it diagnosed by having the codes read but since they are also missing some information about your truck that you provided for us is that it is a 90 so you only need a paper clip to read your codes you take a standard paeper clip and flaten it out and make it into a U shape and insert it into the upper right two connectors in your obd 1 hookup and turn the key on and read the codes you count the flashes of the engine light and then you can call your local auto parts retailer or you can look it up online, now if you have moreinformation about when and what is happening whne your check engine light is coming on then you can also do some simple diagnoses if it is coming on when your engine is running rough then you might look into your ignition system i.e. sparkplugs wires cap rotor coil distributor , if your engine light is only coming on when your car warms up then you may have a egr problem or an o2 sesnor could be going bad but why waste time and money letting someone else tell you the codes when you can do it your self

If the computer found a fault, then have it scanned.
It's FREE and most auto parts places...

(Check Engine Light)
There are many components that work together in the engine to maintain optimal engine performance and economy.
A service engine soon, or check engine light indicates that there is a sensor that is reading a condition that is "out of range".
Simply resetting the light does not solve the initial cause of the problem.
Replacing a number of parts trying to troubleshoot the problem in the hopes of getting the light to stay off is a tremendous waste of time and money.
The simplest, and most economical way to alleviate your issue, is to have an engine diagnostic done by a reputable shop to determine what caused the computer to signal you to begin with. Just reading the computer codes may not find the "cause".
That being said, if per-chance you feel the need to reset the light in the hopes that it was a "glitch" of some kind, you could disconnect the negative battery terminal for a couple of minutes to clear the check engine light.

Have you tried a computer diagnostic hookup? You can go to an auto retail store and pick one up for around 80 bucks and it'll have a sheet with codes that help determine what the problem actually is. That, or take it and get it diagnosed professionaly.

i think the first thing i would check is the 02 sensor, but auto zone can probably pin point it for you.
