Because it is the part of ourselves that is most open and vulnerable to those who would take advantage of it.

It gets broken so easily because after you start to like someone you let your guard down. You become extremely vulnerable.
Then, they rip your heart out and step on it. Then, they just walk away like nothing ever happened..........

If you heart was actually broken, you would be dead. So hearts aren't broken that easily..

Because the luckiest of us are willing to put ourselves out there, to be vulnerable, and sometimes it doesn't always work out. But when it does, all the broken hearts of the past are worth it. :)
