Does your friend do any repair work?? Repalcing an engine mount can be a pain in the butt, - but it is not a "big job"! The mount could run anywhere from around $25 to $150 for the part! And a "novice" probably can replace it in an hour or less depending on how hard it is to get to! It will require a jack and block of wood under the engine to raise it up and relieve load from the engine mount -- which then allows the bolts to be removed and mount taken out so new one can be put in! And then there are the "dogs"-- several manufacturers have an engine mount in the front that is mounted on a bar (which actually has 2 mounts on it )-- this has more bolts and is al little harder to handle , - but more or less the same deal! A garage might charge you $150 labor - to put it in! As long as you know which one it is go to a auto parts supply store and ask what cost for part is (Auto Zone is a good one)! Bad engine mounrts can eventeually tear things up that are attached to engine sometimes-- the mounts are designed so that they can't totally fall apart even if bad, - but they are annoying, and cause exhaust pipe damage, and wiring "fatigue" (which can break wires )! I would say fix it, - unless you think you can find another car for $500 dollars or less!! That should be way over expense of repair right now! You can buy a "Haynes Auto Repair manual" (at autozone where I buy mine) - most of "better"auto supply stores carry them! The book has step by step instructions on how to do this and about anything else on car except rebuild transmission! Cost is about $20 or less! If you have independent garage do your work they will appreciate it!
