There are two "hidden treasure" Italian places in San Francisco that are moderately priced and have a very relaxed, romantic ambience:

1. Frascati on Hyde in Russian Hill. Go for the risotto.

2. L'Ottavo on Sutter. The murals make you feel like you are dining out on a Tuscan terrace somewhere. I love the Fusilli Gorgonzola.

Dinner for two, with wine, at both places can be enjoyed for less than $50.

Sorry...a bit pricey...

The Cliffhouse - my husband was going to bring me there for our 1st date, but if was so busy that weekend, newly renonvated, food is delicious at Sutros (the other restaurant is Bistro, but not as nice), right along coastline next to Ocean Beach

McCormick and Kuleto's at Ghirardelli Square - good view of the ocean here too, if you get a good table, went here for junior prom a long tme ago, salmon was great

Equinox at the top of the Hyatt Regency - 360 degree view of the city

Carnelian Room at the top of the Bank of America building - great view of the Bay and the Bay Bridge

Cityscape Bar & Restaurant on top of Hilton San Francisco - my sister recommends this place, great view again

Cliff House has the view. The food is so-so and a bit over priced but you're really paying for the view. If you go, then make sure you reserve your table by the window an hour before sunset. If you want good food, Quince is a nice little restaurant. Fleur De Lys or Michael Mina are outstanding if you can afford them... Check out the restaurant websites by googling them to get an inside peek...

Goto Scoma's in Sausalito, you can actually see SF from the other side. Great Italian food with a fantastic view.

Francino's on Columbus avenue in North Beach. The owner and his wife (and occasionally their daughter) run the place, so it real and authentic family. Plus, if Francino (the husband/dad) likes you, he will sing opera for you during or after your meal!!
