I believe the only way the Cubs make the playoffs this year is by winning their division. There are too many good teams in the National League, so winning the Wild Card would be a difficult task.
The Cubs are currently in second place, despite being several games below .500. The first place Milwaukee Brewers are in a slump and are starting to fall back towards the pack. If the Cubs can start putting runs on the board with more frequency, and can get more consistant pitching, especially from their bullpen, then the Cubs do have a shot at the playoffs.
Unfortunately, the Cubs are only a game or two ahead of the Pirates, Astros, and Cardinals, and the Reds aren't too far behind those teams. If any of them get on a winning streak, and the Cubs don't, then one of them could catch the Brewers and win the division.

Not a chance. No pitching. Zambrano hasn't been an ace. If you believe he'll rebound based on what he's done in the past then there you have to say that Marquis and Lily have no where to go but down. The bullpen is in shambles. Their 2-12 record in one run games is the result of that. They will be near .500 because they can simply out hit teams, but with little help pitching the playoffs aren't a reality.

possibly considering they would have to win the division. It is obvious that the mets would be favored to win the NL east leaving the braves in a close second. the central would be up for grabs while only 1 team is coming out of the west (probably dodgers). So if you look at the reality of things there is only 1 way they make the playoffs, and that would be division. I think Milwaukee was overrated to start the season, and is finally showing weakness. that leaves probably the cubs. The cards are a downhill team so if you ask me overall, its either them or milwaukee.

the cubs only chance to make the playoffs is winning the n.l. central. they have no shot at the wild card because that will either be the mets, braves, or phillies. now the n.l. central is a winnable division because I really dont think the Brewers will be this good all year, but I also believe the Cardinals will come on in the second half. I don't think there gonna make it.

Not in your lifetime. With 96 losses, no team makes the playoffs. Don't expect any changes-------EVER! When most other teams are doing bad, NO ONE shows up for the games. I remember one time they had 233 people show up for a Pirates game. But if the cubs are doing bad, they still have sellout crowds. DUMB! That's the main reason they will never be in the playoffs, because cub fans are so stupid they support the team even when they are pitiful. Come to think of it, they are pitiful every year.

On paper you'd think they should but they have been playing like crap. I've been watching "Sweet Lou" and he seems to be on the verge of total eruption. It ain't gonna be pretty when it happens. I just don't know what it is about the Cubs. Sometimes I think they are just not destined to do anything. It's got to be driving the fans and management crazy. 99 years is a long time!!

They would have to take the division to do it.
The brew crew is on a 5 game slide right now. The Cubs can make up some ground.

Not unless they trade and get more pitching . There is no consistency in the staff. They need the pitching to stay healthy and they have not been since 2003.
