I see towne and town both used which is correct way or can you use either

i wrote a paper used and towne spelling and got a F

The word "town" is acceptable today, and has been for (as far as I know) the past 200 or so years. If you see it spelled "towne" i.e. Toddler Towne, it is simply a fanciful way of merchandising and supposedly attracting the attention of potential buyers! "Towne" has never been the correct spelling, so don't be misled!

it's acceptable in UK, Australia and parts of Canada - but not US. If there is a 'towne' spelling in the US it's because it's a poetic license type thing... Like 'Ye Olde Towne Bakery' or something. It's a contrived affectation when used in the US.

Town is the American spelling.

towne is a french dirrivative.
