worldwidely, i think Spanish is a good second language to learn. it is used all over Latin and south America (except Brazil) and it has a lot of similarities with Italian as well. if you plan to travel 'down south', speaking or understanding Spanish is a great plus. also, there are a lot of Spanish communities in big cities so if you are working with the public, its really usefull.

as for french, its mostly spoke in France, Belgium, Swiss and Quebec. its also the 'colonial language' of a lot of countries in Africa. so its not that usefull 'worldwide' but if you plan on staying for some time in a place where they locally speak french, that's a good option. in the USA some kids have french classes but since they don't have the opportunity to practice, they forget most of it when they are done with high school.

Definitely Spanish. It is the language in many countries. Also, getting very popular in the U.S. Very useful in many areas of employment. Fun & easy to learn. Besides the French hate Americans.

spanish is definately more useful in today's world, it is one of the fastest growing languages in the world, and if you live in the u.s. you are going to find the need to speak spanish more than french because of the many spanish speaking immigrants. i am on my fourth year of french at school, and it is a beautiful language, but i only took it cuz i already speak spanish =)
