Divide 8 into 1. Since you can't do that directly, add a decimal point and a zero. Now divide 8 into 10 (but don't lose the decimal point). So you get .1, with 2 left over. Now add another zero. Divide 8 into 20, you get 2, with 4 left over. Now add another zero to the 4. Divide 8 into 40 you get 5 with nothing left over. So the decimal is .125. Multiply the decimal by 100 to make it a percent, and you get 12.5%
