I am turning 50 is just 2 weeks. And no, I don't really think that I look like I am still 40--though I sure wish I did.
I am not going to have a party--that is not my style. But I do have a definite plan. I am getting a tattoo. I have wanted one all my adult life, and my hubby is opposed. So I compromised, since that is what marriage is all about [27 years and counting]. I agreed not to get one....until I turned 50. My daughter is going to take me to her tattoo artist. I plan to get a lizard, gecko maybe, probably on my hip. Wish me luck!
And, hope that you come up with a kick-*** idea to celebrate your turn of the century.

Oh, we're just youngsters compared to you two! :-) We celebrate our silver wedding this year, and I must admit have the same vexed question. But we are having the wedding we couldn't afford (renewing our vows) and I have a beautiful gown to wear that I can also wear afterwards on special occasions. We are having a buffet lunch reception - nothing rowdy - and it won't last until the evening, because by then people will want to be on their way back home, and we'll be in the Heathrow Hilton prior to flying first-class to New York for a few days the next day. Then we'll be SKI-ing....Spending the Kids' Inheritance!

You have done more than I have in that way. Have a party. Of course a surprise one would be hard to do. But a "This is Your Life" type is fun. I have about 4 years on you. so Happy Birthday in advance!

BTW, my mind thinks I'm still 20 or so, but my body doesn't agree!! LOL

Congratulations.
To be facetious I would suggest plastic surgery. Sorry, I know you don't need it.
A nice vacation in the mountains would be my ideal birthday present.
