no, the braves are gonna get it back together and win the division. They are not gonna make a repeat of last year. Braves all the way.

How can you say the Mets have more tallent? Because they had a better record last year and are 4 games up this year? Well, right now the braves have them 14-1 as far as clinched division titles, and I don't even remeber how many times the mets have made it to the world series since 1990.
The Braves have the talent, no doubt. Lets just take a look. Kelly Johnson has did a TERRIFIC job over at 2B, defensively AND offensively. Chipper Jones is in the top 5 NL at HR's this year. If I'm correct he has 12, Andruw Jones has won 9 straight golden gloves, and the braves have killed the mets in the clutch (with 2 outs). Jeff Francoeur and Brian McCan have done their jobs as well in the clutch.
John Smoltz, Tim Hudson, Chuck James may not be able to carry the braves on their back. Which is why they will rely on their offense which have the mets beat 10-0. And what's this talk about the Phillies owning the Braves when the Braves have owned the mets all year? How did the Phillies even get braught up? I'm pretty certain their not going to be taking any NL East title this year.
Braves all the way, plain and simple. My words are Muck The Fets.

What a great division to watch this season. I had originally picked the Phillies but they stumbled out of the box. The Mets and Braves looked like they were going to run away with the division and the wild card. But the Phillies had their way with the Braves this weekend and Howard is back and healthy. Three teams and two playoff berths. This is the way baseball should be in every division. Pitching is the key and if Pedro comes back I'd have to give the edge to the Mets. I still think the Philles as a 25 man squad are better than the Braves. There's a long way to go so it's going to be fun all the way.

Last time I checked, MVP, it doesnt matter at all that the Braves team won the NL East 10 years ago, as the Braves are a different team today, as are the Mets. If you have nothing better to cling to than "the Braves won 10 years ago", its no wonder the Braves are in trouble. We can say the Mets have more talent because, quite simply, they do. Let's take a look at the lineups. SS - Jose Reyes versus Edgar Renteria. Renteria is a decent hitter, but not a whole lot of speed. Reyes has speed, power, hits for average, scores a ton of runs and energiez the ball club. 1B -- Carlos Delgado is one of the best power hitters in the last 10 years. Scott Thorman is a career .240 hitter. 2B -- Damien Easley/Jose Valentin versus Kelly Johnson. This is pretty even. Kelly Johnson, for all the obsession over him, is only hitting .275. 3B - David Wright vs. Chipper Jones. Chipper has already missed about 10 games this season, and has missed his last four. It doesnt matter how good of a hitter he is if he doesnt play. Wright, meanwhile, has a great future, is starting to get his swing back, is good for 20+ homeruns and 100+ rbis. CF -- Andruw Jones is slipping pretty badly, while Carlos Beltran is the best he's ever been. Still pretty even, but what can you say about how Andruw is playing? Matt Diaz vs. Moises Alou. Alou is a hitting machine, his only issue is health. Diaz, meanwhile, has had one good month in his career. Shawn Green vs. Jeff Francoeur -- this is really the only spot where you can give the clear advantage to the Braves. C -- Paul Lo Duca vs. Brian McCann. Lo Duca is hitting .329, has knocked in 14 runs and always gets Reyes over. McCann is hitting .278, with only 3 home runs and 13 rbis despite batting in a run producing spot. The Mets have a clear advantage in their lineup.
Pitching, the Mets too have a clear advantage. I'll concede the Braves have a better top two, Smoltz and Hudson versus Glavine and Hernandez, but Glavine and El Duque are fine pitchers. A combined 7-3 (El Duque missed a month), and an era around 3.20. But after that, the Braves rotation collapses. James is medicore, he's 4-4 right now with a +4 era, though he's doing alright in today's game. The Mets 3 starter is 6-2 with a 2.79 era. Number four spot, Kyle Davies is 2-3 with a 5.51 era, while Oliver Perez is 6-3 with a 2.54 era. Finally, the Braves dont even have a 5 pitcher right now. The Mets have 4-1 Jorge Sosa. The Braves cant win the NL East with two pitchers.
Bullpen-wise, the Mets are third in the majors in bullpen era, the Braves are 14th. Do you really have to say more?
But dont believe me? Lets look at the numbers. The Mets have scored more in fewer games. The Mets are batting .281 as a team, the Braves are batting .263. The Mets are fourth in OPS, Atlanta is 7th. Looks like the Mets score more and hit better. Starting pitching: Mets starters are 22-15 with a 3.54 era. The Braves starters are 18-18 with a 4.13 era. The Mets have also struck out more in two fewer games. The Mets starters lead the majors in batting average against with .228, the Braves are 15th with .268. There, too, the Mets are much stronger. Finally, in the bullpen. The Mets bullpen has an era of 3.13, the Braves 4.06. Again, the Mets numbers are just so much better. Couple that with a 4.5 game lead over the Braves, and I think its clear the Mets are a better team.

I think the Mets have a very good shot. The Mets have a very good lineup, a strong bullpen and a much better rotation than people realize. The Braves simply dont have the rotation to take on the Mets. Plus, their bullpen isnt as good, and their lineup is dependent on Chipper Jones, who typically misses 30-40 games with injuries. I'd say the Phillies are a bigger threat to the Mets than are the Braves. Look at the Braves rotation. Smoltz and Hudson are fine, but after that it falls apart. Their three starter is 4-4 with a 4.13 era and averages about 5 innings (Chuck James) compared to the Mets' third starter, Maine, who is 6-2 with a 2.79 era. The Braves four starter, Kyle Davies, is simply awful, while Perez, the Mets four starter is 6-3 with a 2.54 era. I cant even say who the Braves fifth starter is, but I know they're relying on Lance Cormier, a .500 pitcher with a career 5.70 era to anchor their rotation. If the Braves dont make a move to bring in some pitching, they dont have a shot. The Phillies have a chance, but I think their lineup is too dependent on Ryan Howard to win. Their rotation is good, but their bullpen is mediocre. I think the Mets have an excellent chance.

The Mets should win the division. as for the Braves who knows if they even make the playoffs with the pitching staff they have, Smotlz and Hudson are not going to carry them the whole year.

Yes. The Mets recently got O. Hernandez back and Wright and Delgado haven't been hot, but they look good and should only get better.
Also, the Braves are barely getting by because of their line-up

yes, they have a lot more talent than the braves, and their pitching staff has more experience late in the year...the braves will threaten them for a while, but eventually the mets will pull away with the division

Well they are definately a good team and can do it. they just have to stay consistant and stay off loosing streaks. If they keep playing the way they are. Then they are definitely going to take the division.
