The parents are looking at Kymco, MeiTian, Keenmotorbikes, and something Pep Boys sells. Any body with ANY experience or knowledge of these things please respond. These things are getting more popular, but info on them is not easy to find...

I own a Kymco and it's great. I've talked to many people and they agree that you can't go wrong with a Kymco. It's a very good brand with a good reputation. The guy that owns the Vespa dealership where I live even said that Kymco is a good quality bike and a great value. Plus, Kymco has a 2 year warranty while many others have only a 1 year warranty. And if something does go wrong for some reason, it's a popular brand and parts are pretty easy to find.

Go with the Kymco, and if I may make a suggestion... the Peoples Scooter is a great bike. However, that is just my suggestion. As to the secondary bikes, go with either Honda or Yamaha, cause the others are a bit more in cost. Now, as for parts, even if you go with the Kymco, you can get parts from Parts for Scooters in Florida. They have a large selection of parts for Chinese Scooters. As always, know and follow all Traffic Laws, and ride safely.

Out of the ones you mentioned, Kymco seems to be the only one with a little bit of a reputation, so I'd pick that one. You could also look for something Italian, they're usually pretty affordable but nice quality.

Don't buy the chinese crapola. Get something a reputable dealer can help you fix if/when needed. I have a Zuma. Bought it new 4 years ago. Zero problems. In the long run, you'll pay less by buying a Yamaha or Honda.

Brand wise, I don't have an opinion.
However, one MAJOR thing to keep in mind is if it breaks or needs service can you take it back to where you bought it for parts and service?
Are replacement parts available localy, if at all?
Many big chain auto parts stores sell China made stuff that is considered disposable if it breaks. In other words, you can't find parts or sevice ANYWHERE!!
Before you buy something reguardless of manufacturer make sure you can get parts and/or service localy.
