The only way to get a book published, the right way is to have companies read it. If they like it, then THEY will publish it.
I too have looked at "Self Publishing" sites-universe, Xilbris, among others, but soon found out, all they want is your money.
In the end, I found out, the only way to get a book published is send in the manuscript to a brick and mortar place.

Find the current edition of "Writer's Market," it has a list of publishers and what they're looking for and tips on getting published. Beware of anyone, either publishers or agents, who asks for money up front, it's likely a scam if they do. And don't let anyone tell you you can't get it published, the author of "Eragon" was not much older than you when he got it published.

I second the advice that you should look for Writer's Market. You might also try the back section of Writer Magazine if you can find it at a library or get a subscription; they specialize in a different type of publication each month.

"Writer's market" is the way to go. Self-publishing will only cost you a lot of money that you more than likely won't ever recoup.

You can do what's called self-publishing using a company like Amazon.com's BookSurge.
