the average GPA is a 3.6 and a SAT score of 1750 or so. It has been labeled as a fourth-tier school, which i think is not true.

San Diego State is a really fun school in a great location. Perhaps higher academically is UCSD but that is harder to get into. In the end though, a university is what you make of it. If you go to class and study and get the grades then you will do well. If you go to a really great school and slack off then it won't matter that you went to a great school. Best to find a balance, SDSU is a blast with lots of good professors and academics.

Keep in mind how many different schools there are out there. Is it Harvard or Princeton? Of course not! Is it a decent school at which you can get an acceptable education? Absolutely. It is one of the better CSUs, but none of the CSUs, in part because of their student-teacher ratios and in part because of their limited selectivity, has too high a ranking.

Its a top level csu school. If you can't get into a UC then it will do just fine. I actually think its more fun there too.
