It can harbor salmonella poisoning, just like all lizards, amphibians and other animals with shells. Wear gloves, wash your hands right way, don't let it crawl all over you, don't touch your mouth, eyes or nose without washing first if you have touched it.
Same goes for any pet rodents you may have. Basically while you are pregnant if you have pets, either move out or seal yourself into a hermetically sealed bubble. No, just kidding. Basically use common sense when handling, try to minimize or protect yourself if you must. Better to be safe than sorry!

Well probably the person that wrote the book, read more than one book on it.
Also if you read the entire book and not a single paragraph it would probably have stated why you shouldn't handle Hermit Crabs while pregnant.
Read the whole book, or read another book.

Rats are impressive pets no longer in basic terms by way of fact they're low-value and straightforward to maintain, yet by way of fact they grant extra exciting play than issues like fish or perhaps different small mammals. They consume in basic terms approximately something different than some no-no's like citrus or something meat appropriate (which they are able to consume yet you ought to no longer feed them for a sort of motives). Their biology is close sufficient to people that they are able to consume regardless of else you're eating. in many situations, you purchase lab blocks from the puppy keep, that are airborne dirt and dirt much less costly and wholesome. A bag of lab blocks lasts a pair of months and is in many situations the terrific source of suitable foodstuff (do no longer make the blunders of feeding them in basic terms people nutrition or in basic terms moist nutrition). with the exception of that the only different fee is bedding. Bedding, easily, can get costly, yet there are a number of techniques around this, which incorporate offering sheets quite of bedding, and changing those another day (easily a great sort of extra matured rat proprietors with extra desirable cages use a clutter tray that the rats flow poopie in, and then cover each and every little thing else in fabric). 50 funds will in all risk no longer be sufficient to purchase a extensive sufficient cage, even for one rat. it may be, even if it may be cruel to maintain in him in something so small for long sessions. approximately 80- one hundred dollars will purchase you a suitable cage, and then the rat is like 10 dollars, and the nutrition is yet another 10.

This is a first I have ever heard of this. Perhaps there's a danger in diseases.
Just in case there's any truth to this, I suggest you wear latex gloves when handling them or let someone else do it.
