There is no chemical reason for draining the pool. Shocking the pool with a high chlorine concentration for 24 hours would purify the water. The problem obviously is dealing with the psychological problems. I think the only way most people would ever go back in the pool is if it was drained and acid-washed.

Ofcourse it is not safe to eat do you know how much people pee on the swimming pools. Just throw it away to be safe...
