Usually there is more damage to the engine than just the piston. More than likely it would be cheaper to buy a used engine.

How do you know it is a broken piston ? Did a mechanic tell you this ? If it is a matter of no compression it could be a blown head gasket. Are we talking gas or diesel? A broken piston is unusual and would likely make a lot of noise. Make sure before you settle for the diagnosis. Don't get ripped off.

It depends on the damage done. If the block is ruined, then obviously repair is not an option, and the motor needs replaced. Only way to be sure is to pull it apart. Can try pulling a plug and looking in, if obvious damage, no need to go further.

Junk it baby, chances are the connecting rod slapped the cylinder wall and moving at a high rate of speed chances are there is more damage.

depending on the make/model of car you are probably better off getting a replacement motor (used with low miles) then you would be having the motor rebuilt.
