The song is theoretically sung by one of the Spiders from Mars, Ziggy's group.
There is a lyric towards the end of the song:
"When the kids had killed the man, I had to break up the band".
Sounds like he's dead to me.

Ziggy Stardust was a character in the 1972 rock concept album by David Bowie. He wasn't a real person.
And besides the name "Stardust" and that he was a fictional character from Mars, he had nothing to do with the science in Astronomy and Space.

No he's alive ...his name is David Bowie lol...he played the character of Ziggy Stardust. That's an awesome song.
