How do i find out whether or not someone's divorce is final?

My friend's significant other was married (and possibly divorced) many years ago. He says they started divorce proceedings, but (according to him) he doesn't know whether or not that ever went through. How can she go about finding out for sure?

Check with the public records officethat would handle this divorce. Its a matter of public record

When it is final ,they can be gotten from court records
