I've had this actual experience - the results are not at all what you would expect. When I was in high school (WAAAY too long ago), we lived in an evergreen forest. One summer, there was a forest fire - when the wind changed suddenly, the sheriff came through with a bullhorn to tell us all to leave IMMEDIATELY.
My neighbor on one side took only a pan of brownies which were straight out of the oven. The neighbors on the other side took diapers for their baby, but forgot their wallets. I wanted to take my upright grand piano (clearly I was also nuts). As I recall, we didn't end up taking much of anything ...
The entire town ended up waiting for the fire to clear while standing on top of ......... the local gas station. Yep, completely nuts.
Everybody more or less lost their minds that day .... luckily, nobody lost their homes (the wind shifted again) although it was quite awhile before we got the Boraid (fire retardant) washed out of everything!
Since then, I have the stuff organized that I'd like to take in case we have another disaster - it would be family photos and the computer that keeps our lives organized!

I'd immediately grab an incredible painted glass picture of a Dutch Windmill that may Grandmother had hanging over her old fashioned upright piano in her home in Wilmington, DE. It was bought in 1919 or 1920 when this was a pretty popular form of "living room art." It's gorgeous and my Grandmother was a force to be reckoned with! I adored her.
Then I'd get my scrapbooks that go back to the 60's. These aren't just pictures of weddings and birthday parties, but every ticket stub from a concert, articles, mementos, etc., that I 've managed to experience over the years.
After I got these things, my 10 minutes would be up.

Well as a kid we went through 2 fires and my mom always missed our baby pictures and baby things so I guess that is why I keep all my pictures in one place and I have copies and give them to family so I will always have them if I loose them. But for me the family Bible holds all the ancestry I would miss
And then my computer because it holds alot of info too plus my cell phone

Well, I would have to go with my husband and cats. Then I would go for my purse, like most women, everything I need or will need is in there.
We have a fire-proof safe with all of our important papers in it. So, I don't worry too much about that.

My artwork and tools. What else am I going to use to rebuild my life? I'm an artist, I need all of my tools, and my personal history in my trade to keep looking back on.

Kids and animals, as far as material items go I do not think they would even cross my mind.

the cat, the photos, and the computer hard drive. My pics and my cat can't be replaced, and I'm assuming that the adult males living here would get out on their own.
