The first part of your question: Running the ball is about desire, not bulk. The most important skills are learning the play book, speed, not fumbling, conditioning, learning how to block, field vision, and learning how to evade tacklers up close.
To evade a tackler you have to make a defender commit himself. If you can take a few steps right and then accelerate left into a hole, or if you can learn how to stiff arm or spin/swim through a tackle, you will be a better ball carrier. Let your coaches develop you.
If you think you need more weight to provide power, do it in the weight room. Don't get a sloppy body if you want to run.

you can be a really short and fast runningback but your coach will probably rather have you play defense cuz there are players a foot taller than you and over twice your weight that will be wanting to tackle you. you most likely won't be able to break those tackles.
so yea you should gain some weight and if you're only pretty fast and not really fast then the extra weight will slow you down too much to play running back.
you really don't need to know anything about football before you start freshman ball.

well first off, starting as a freshman football player is a big step. there will be a lot of other guys goin for your position, so you need to hit the gym and show the coaches that you are truly dedicated to your position. You may want to gain some weight to impress your coach. But not by eating a lot of fatty foods. Muscle mass weights more than fat mass so you should be drinking protein shakes and hittin the gym to use up that protein to create more of that muscle mass. And if you truly bust ur butt you can make the team.
Btw, im a guy, not "joan" but John.

You will get bigger as you get older. If your willing to take the pounding a running back has to take then go for it. After all it 's high school football not the NFL. You don't have to be big just have the heart and the will to play your best all the time.

You don't have to be the 'big' kind of hole running back, there are those who are so speedy they evade most tackles rather than bust their way through.
At your age when you're only just growing up I doubt they'll expect you to know everything, and be as big as the stereotypical running back. Do your best and play to your strengths rather than what 'should' be there.
