Two things can be going on.

1) you have not setup your desktop for file and printer sharing

or

2) your firewall on the desktop is not configured to allow access from your lasptop.

Just because the internet sharing works does not mean that it is configured correctly to allow networking.

I'm not sure the exact way to get to it on Windows ME.. But you need to have the settings on that computer set properly for allowing "file and printer sharing"..

I know when I had done some things on one of our computers here, that setting had changed and I could only access files in one direction like you're saying.. once I fixed that.. It worked fine.

It would be under a section called "network connections" or something similar I am sure. I don't have WinME here.. so I can't just bring it up.. :)

It appears as though the desktop files are not set up for network sharing. Open Windows Explorer on the desktop (right click start, then click on explore). Right click the folders you wish to share and follow the sharing and security prompts.

This should enable you to see the folders from the lap top.

in case you're making use of a prompt community then enable thepersistent on the laptop to be shared or you are able to share guy or woman folders, yet determine you have good protection ie firewalls on the router and bypass keys.

the great danger about sharing files is if your on the internet, and someone should get onto your computer you have given them access to your files, you should only use shared folders and drop the files you want to share in the shared folders,,, and only give access to named users,,,

check the filesharing under windowsME, share any folder under ME, try to access it from the laptop
