Sorry, no. You'd need a DVD R or RW.

No, dvd rom drives only allow your computer to read dvd's. You woul need a dvd/r or dvd/rw which allows you to burn dvd's, audio or data dvd's and also cd's.
If you don't want to get one for your computer internally, buy an external cd/r or cd/rw which would be much cheaper an option. Just connect it via usb cable and away you go.

Usually a DVD ROM is a combo and can write CDs. In fact, I have never seen a DVD ROM that cannot write CDs. On the DVD ROM you will find the "Disc Re-Writable" logo and that means that you can certianly write CDs. In fact, you can simply start writing on a CD and check what your computer would say! If you have Win XP, Win XP SP2 or Win VISTA then you don't need a seperate S/W to install to make it write!
Hope you all the best with that:)

you can't use it. you need cdrw or dvdrw to burn audio from your computer
but you can use your dvd drive and a writable drive to copy a cd.
