Yes, there was a ship that wasn't too far away, but ignored the calls for help or something.

Yes and actually the ship has been named, sorry can't recall the name. The ship nearby didn't come to the rescue because they didn't realize there was danger. Oh and they did send an SOS out. As I understand the story the other ship didn't get the message because the radio operator was asleep, don't know if that is true or not though.

There was a ship fairly close. Not close enough to see the the Titanic, but close enough to see their flares. The assumption was made on the other ship at the time that the crew of the Titanic was just celebrating and the flares did not indicate distress. It was the maiden voyage of an "unsinkable" ship, so nobody expected trouble. If I remember right, there was also some confusion about the radio distress signal. The emergency signal of S.O.S. was newly introduced at the time and it was not yet widely understood.

there was a ship about a mile off and going the other way..it could not have helped as it was not aware of the trouble. They did not have the communication then as we do now.
The people that manned the ship were brainwashed by her sheer size...that she was unsinkable .They felt that weather and ice could not harm the titanic

Well, that seems to be a modern urban legend that I personally think can't really be answered. The very well may have been one, but why it didn't come to Titanic's rescue I have no idea.
