If the average soldier is uneducated then how is this explained?
We find that, on average, recruits tend to be much more highly educated than the general public and that this education disparity increased after the war on terrorism began. Meaning even more highly educated people enlisted.
This site also shows that most enlisted personell are from middle class families, not poor. So how is our government exploiting the uneducated poor man with no options into dying for his country?

No, I have not been in the military...I was a military dependant for years. My Husband is a Vet, My father was a Vet of 3 wars, and my brother in-law is on his 3rd tour in Iraq...I have seen many references to the lack of inteligence of our troops in both questions and answers...I simply wanted to know why. I am not keeping the rumor alive, I am attempting to kill it with facts.
Thank you to everyone who answered with diginity and honesty...shame on those who resorted to ugliness...
GOD BLESS THIS GREAT NATION AND THE TROOPS WHO SERVE HER!

true, soldiers are the most disciplined and educated of all average civilians as well. i do believe that people think soldiers are stupid because of the media. movies and stuff. and it is also because of those dam hippies against the military spreading wrong stuff about the military. people fail to think that soldiers are smart people, only a dog of war. but they should envy them for that the soldiers are being built to be strong and intelligent. they have an education that no other school can offer.

Because they are uneducated themselves. They don't know the true facts, that 96% of the military are college graduates, or have graduated high school. It is easy to pick on people they hate, and don't know, when they themselves are lacking. It is also a propaganda scheme to use during war time, to undermine the troops, and the war. Those people who do such things, are not only ignorant, but mean, hateful, and stupid.

That's a very nice question.. right towards memorial Day.. but whatever... I haven't really heard that, but you have to consider most get pulled into the military right after high-school.. some use the GI Bill for further education, some don't.. but regardless if they are a college graduate or a high-school graduate.. they have my sincere thanks for everything they do everyday- We would not be a country without them.. the protect us and keep us safe.. so that you can come on here a pose such a question, I know you are defending soldiers but if you have heard people say that.. why not just let it go as their ignorance.. why do you have to keep such a question or statement alive and well..

Do you like knowing that a member of your family was sent to Iraq and might die there on the basis of lies?
Do you like knowing that you were lied to about the justifications for the Iraq invasion? How does it feel, with the very lives of loved ones on the line, to be taken for a complete sucker?
In general, the less intelligent people are, the more apt they are to be easily duped. Sorry, but it's a general rule of thumb, though there are always exceptions to every rule.
So I'm sorry, but if you are connected to the military and support the Iraq war on the basis of ANY of the justifications given, then yes, I do consider you less intelligent than me. And the facts pretty much bear it out, that you're a patsy waiting to be duped.
In fact, I KNOW it, because I wasn't fooled by any of those lies. I opposed it from Day 1.
Answer me this...if you supported the Iraq invasion, who was right about Iraq, me or you? Who was right?
Who told you so?
If you were so right and so smart, where are the WMDs? Where are the terrorist connections to Saddam? Where was the imminent threat? Why are there more terrorists in Iraq now than there were before the invasion? Why didn't the Iraqi nation welcome us with open arms? Why is there still civil war? Why?
So sorry, but you'll pardon me if I DON'T listen to people like you. And maybe next time around YOU'LL listen to the SMART people in the room.

My husband is in the military and God Bless his soul is in the Middle East. My hubby got his Bachelor's before he left, and had a 4.0 GPA. He has received countless medals. Our young men and women are brave enough to fight our enemies, and it is so disrespectful and shallow to call them uneducated and ignorant. How dare some of you people. They are fighting for your right to be narrow minded, selfish, cruel individuals pointing fingers. At least they have the nads, and the brains to fight for your right to be this way.

It's really a shame. I know so many people in the military. Both of lower and higher rank and they're not uneducated. Most of them joined to serve their country and to better themselves.
Yes, folks. Bless them.

I don't know. In my experiences I have only met inspiring and intelligent soldiers. A big reason that people join the forces is so that the government can help with their education. People might be feeling guilty for not helping their country and use this as an excuse not to join.

Ignorance mostly.
I think that it's a stereotype. Because most young people who don't go to college go to the military and "people" will view that as a bad thing and put the military folks in a class in which they don't belong.
My F-I-L is retired Army and has 2 master degrees. Really uneducated and ignorant......I think not!

It could be more just an attack on American culture, as the military is a key part of that.
We are at war, and the enemy is within.
